It's Time

Dear all.

As the Tim & Ben Show reaches its 3rd year this year, the team has plans to do and places to go.

Most of the team are right now preparing for the GCE "O" Level Examinations that will take place this year.

I know its a dumb excuse to stop doing the show, but we really do not have much of a choice.

You see, the Secondary 4s have to quit CCA after the coming March holidays, making it rather difficult (not impossible) to get access to the equipment we need to do podcasts and make videos.

Also, after they take us out of the CCA, we'll have to spend more time in school for extra lessons and more private tuition, making it also very difficult to have time to do what we like.

We think its madness, but the school thinks its normal and necessary.

So, do not expect any of us to be producing anything soon, but there is hope we might still do a few things, especially with Chong Wen on the boat. With him and his team, the Tim & Ben flame might still go on. We'll see.

Ben and Wen Jun are not going to school at the moment.

Ben decided to leave school (technically, take long leave from school) to pursue an education in music. Currently he spends his time going for private music lessons and spends the rest of his time practicing and finally slowing down from the fast-paced school life. He's loving it.

He has projects that are coming up that will help propel him to the U.S for his music degrees in 2009.

Wen Jun just decided that he had enough of school and is staying at home, under the impression that he has some medical condition. He's fine but fustrated at the school. I know we are. He currently spends his time pursuing his hobbies and is looking for projects to pursue, profitable or non-profitable. He also now has the time to slow down and enjoy the things he loves, like meeting up with new people who has similar interests in buses. He's doing great.

Tim and Rui Bin are currently studying in school for their "O" level examinations in about August/September. Timothy has private tuition almost every single day on top of extra classes in school, and does not have to luxury of time to continue the show.

Rui Bin also has extra lessons after school and is currently under the school's AV team. Root for them for their "O" level examinations.

Chong Wen and his friends are currently studying in Secondary 3, giving them some time to do as they please. Chong Wen has agreed to compete in this year's Kid Witness News competition with a group of his friends. So far, he is the current forerunner to the Tim & Ben Productions, so look out for his future works.

To our very small fan base, thanks for just taking a look at us. We had fun making those videos, even though no one really watched them.

In this vodcast, they feature Anderson Primary School's entry and its presenter, as well as our entry and Chong Wen.
They too ask Chong Wen some interesting questions regarding the video.

But I think we were talking too fast for the people to catch what we're saying.

omy.sg is a billingual portal created by SPH that features local and world news from official sources, as well as citizen journalism and user created content. Which I honestly think is something like STOMP.

Kid Witness News 2007 Results

Alas.

It was a wet morning, with a very light drizzle going on.

14 students and 1 teacher stepped out of the bus which brought us to our venue at the KWN Award Ceremony held at Capitol Towers.

The bus ride was horrible.

We registered and entered. Met a few Panasonic representatives and got ushered into the auditorium.

There are about 42 entries this year, which was up from 30 plus entries the previous year, in which we won.

The speeches were fine.
A pleasant one from the Panasonic Director,
A business oriented one from the MDA Director,
And a Minister-y one from the the GOH, a minister.

This year, we did rather well with the uprising competition.

We got nominated for the Clipper (Best Editing), Spotlight (Best Content) and Top News Production Award.
We clinched the Spotlight award, but narrowly miss the Top Production Award, so they say.

The team were optimistic though, and there are already talks for teams and themes to tackle next year.

But the entries were good, looking back at our 2006 entry, we really won by luck then, and wouldn't stand a chance to get awarded anything if it was submitted for this year's competition.

I'm glad with the production altogether, which took pains to complete. But we did it and I'm proud to be part of it, and I'm sure the guys too.

Team, thanks for being part of this production this year, no matter your role. I had fun working with you and look forward to doing future productions with you. May you renew your interest in video production and never let your creativity die, for it is the essence of great works.

The ceremony ended nicely. We got interviewed by omy.sg and had a very short but fun photo-op.
And the food was good.

There are also talks on workshops being conducted by Panasonic for HD equipment for our school, which is a really good thing if you ask me.

We'll be back pretty soon. The uploads for the videos have been terrible, I have not been able to do so because of problems from the websites themselves. But I promise to do my best to upload our works.

Next up, Pei Hwa Film Festival, January 08'

Hey all.

I know its been a really bloody long while, but hey, we are actually updating!

Some highlights we want to mention,

1st, the KWN Prize Presentation Ceremony, this is where we get to find out who wins for this year's KWN.

Please please please please pray for us to win, we've worked really hard to get our final product.

Here are somethings interesting that happened during KWN.

1. This is our most expensive production to date. We spent about $100 on greenscreen (for special effects) and about another $100 for transport to our filming locations. This is all possible thanks to Chong Wen, this year's producer. Thanks again man!

2. We took approximately 2 weeks to finish all the filming, which screwed up our schedule of a 1 week filming period.

3. Editing with special effects took about 4-5 days. It could have been shorter if I had tagged and assembled all the shots we took on the same day.

I'm uploading our entries for KWN, which includes this year's one and last years, as well as one which we took for the Canon DVTriathalon.

Wish us all the best for the competition and hope we win.

Since we're talking about competitions, we're holding one of our own. Yup.

The Tim & Ben Productions, along with the Media Club will be having our own competition.
Details are still being worked out with the teachers, but this competition will have 20 teams of 4 members to plan, film and edit a 3 minutes video in 10 hours.
Yes, its grueling, but we want to share our experience that we had in the DVTriathalon to the school.

Prizes may include iPods and movie vouchers.

And we're also releasing adverts for this, which also be uploaded once this competition has the green light.

The exams for us ends tomorrow, which gives us sometime to do some decent podcasting after a half year absence.

But there have been good stuff to report, like the arrival of the long awaited Apple iMacs and MacBook Pros. Finally the Media Club have some solid stuff to work with, along with the new Leopard release of OS X, which will make productions much more slicker.

The only thing left is to get a few more products, like Final Cut Studio.

I will upload the videos i mentioned. I promise. =)

Preperations!

Things are starting to warm up this August.

Starting on Monday, the Tim & Ben Productions team will officially start on their KWN journey.
For 5 weeks, the boys will have to sweat blood and tears to make this production work.

We're starting off with scripting for about a week, then go on to the other processes like filming and editing.

We'll keep you guys posted on the progress, maybe do a podcast or 2.

Also, If you've seen Panasonic's KWN advertisment on TVmobile, yes, thats us alright.

Canon DVTriathlon 2007

Hey all,

Our Mid-year examinations are over and we finally had some time for fun!

Yesterday, we headed down to the iShop Club 21 at Orchard Cineleisure for the Canon DVTriathlon 2007. A competition where we had to produce a 3 minute video within 10 hours. And boy, what a day it was.

The whole Tim & Productions Team headed down to Wen Jun's place in the morning to get our gear and set off. We were all pretty anxious to get to the venue to start the day.
We reached iShop at 10am. Just in time to get in to register and listen to the breifing.

For this compeition. There would be a topic and 3 mystery elements that we had to include in anyway in our video. At 11am, the official starting time, the topic given was global warming, with the 1st mystery element, a matchstick.

We had to collect our 2nd and 3rd mystery element at 1pm at the Canon Gallery @ VivoCity. IT was quite a distance from Orchard, but we got there with a help of the event photographer, who gave us a lift. Thanks again man!

The 2nd and 3rd elements was water and leaf. We had already done water when we started filiming in Orchard. So that wasnt a problem.
We continued filming at VivoCity with some technical problems along the way. Mr Nizam's DV camera which we borrowed had a problem, which caused us editing problems later on.

After that, we headed back to the iShop to start editing, only to face video corruption with the tape used in Mr Nizam's DV camera.
So while Wen Jun salvaged the rest of the footages, Rui Bin, Tim & I went out to Orchard to refilm what was lost.

The whole thing was a hectic rush. But we loved the adrenaline rush.

After dinner, the judges screened all the 34 entries for the competition. There were many professional videos and amerturish ones like ours. But this competition is a open catergory-type, so that was to be expected.

Well, we'd love to upload our video. But sadly the file size is too big for YouTube or imeem. Canon will upload the videos in about a week's time. So we'll post the link once its up.

This was an experience which we will never forget, and something we'll look forward to for the years to come.

Yo everyone!

Our interview with IN is finally up! You can check it out. Its in today's paper (Mon 12/2) and our interview with Yii Wen and Alfred is all covered.

Boy are we glad...

We'll scan the actual article by tomorrow and have it online here as soon as possible.

In the meanwhile, Tim, Rui Bin (our sound designer) and myself are all busy trying to make it for the National Schools Podcast competition by the Valentine's Day deadline.
In this competition, we'll be using a .mac account and using programs such as iWeb, which we are planning to use for future podcasting, because its so easy to use.

You can expect 3 brand new podcasts and 1 vlogcasts, which includes guests such as Chong Wen, Hui Xiang and James from our Multimedia/AV club. We also have a special guest for our vlogcast!

All these not to be missed, keep watching this space!

IN-terview and STOMP!

Yay!

Today was out interview with the IN team, who also happened to collaborate with the Stompcast crew from STOMP! Tim & I were overwhelmed and we didnt expect something like this to be such a hoo-haa.

But both of us are grateful for the invitation that the IN team sent to us, though it was made the night before, we're glad that all went well...

To start, we met with the team in the lobby at SPH. We did all did some brief introduction and we quickly discussed about what we were to do. The whole interview would mostly be a vlogcast that STOMP would cover, shortly after would be some chat session with the IN team.

We were told to make an entrance and introduce ourselves. At that point of time, we were quite stunned with the attention we were getting, we weren't prepared for this. But its good that we weren't, if not we would have panicked too.
We then went down to the Koi Pond where most of the interviews were held. It was a rather interesting session for us and it allowed both Tim & I to think back about when we were doing the shows.

Ah! Next we headed to the recreation room, where they had pool tables and gyms. We started by playing (or just pretended) to play some pool as we joked around and got comfortable to reveal our true selves... haha... There were a bit more questions and also a game of "Who's Who" (I shall call that for now as I dont know the name of the show) It is where the team asked questions and if we feel that the questions relates to me, i put up a "ME" sign. If i think it relates to the other person, i put up a "YOU" sign.
After rounds of some fun and joking around, the STOMP team had got their footage and had to head back to their desks to work on it.
We then had a really fun photo session with a really nice photographer. We did funny stuff with an areobic ball, a treadmill, weights and several copies of the IN papers.
We also had the chat session with the IN group as they needed their coverage for their article.

After which we headed to the offices, where we got to meet the editor of IN, Serene.

The burning question we wanted to ask was "How on earth did you guys get to know about our vlogcast? the Tim & Ben Show?"

She told us that she had an ex-intern (someone who used to be attached in IN) and had send the link to Serene (i think). They thought it was good stuff and passed it on to the other intern members at IN, whom then called us for the interview.

Guess what. The ex-intern is now currently in New York.
Yes, its in America.

I'm guessing that she cant possibly have googled it or did a search. It must have been passed by word of mouth.

Anyways, Tim & I would like to extend our WARMEST THANKS to the guys & gals at IN and STOMP! Thanks for having us with you this afternoon.

You guys can check us out on the next issue of IN which will be distributed on the 5th of February, which is NEXT MONDAY.
Sadly, our school does not suscribe to IN and you guys cant get to read it... (Sticks out tongue) But we'll talk to the school about getting copies if possible. If not you guys can read the actual article on this site when its out!

Interview!

Hi all!

We just got a suprise call from the IN Newspaper by Straits Times and they want the creators of the Tim & Ben Show to go down to Singapore Press Holdings tomorrow after school for an interview.

We are still in shock and very surprised as we type this entry. We have NO idea how they got to know about the Tim & Ben Show. The only "lead" we have was that Ben went for the Straits Times Media Club Camp last December and should be related to all this somehow.

But he doesnt know who those people who contacted him are, which is a bit strange too as we have never mentioned much about the Tim & Ben Show to anyone.

Anyways, we are very pleased and honoured to be interviewed. We just never expected it.

So to the person who wants us for the interview, if you are reading this, thanks for inviting us for the interview and we'll see you tomorrow!

If you guys want to read the interview once its out, you'll have to purchase the IN newspaper which is only specially sent to schools. Sadly for our school, we do not subscribe to IN. But we'll see what we can do about it! =)

Also, Tim & Ben would be participating in the National Schools Podcast Competition and we're required to make a series of 4 podcasts. Tentatively Mr Koh and Mr Nizam will be joining us too if all goes well. So do wish us luck for that and dont be afriad if we ask you to join us for one of the episodes!

KWN Regional Rounds 2006

Hi Hi,

We've just came back from our trip at KL. It was fabulous and we met new friends there, saw new sights, and ate good food!

On the 1st day we arrived, we had the award ceremony and the appreciation dinner. For this Regional Rounds, we managed to walk away with the BEST SCRIPT with Indonesia representing Pacific Asia for the International Round.

There were a total of 7 countries participating, Australia, New Zeland, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore, with Vietnam being a newcomer, joining us this year.

The food there was good. Besides that was the prices of the things we bought there. It was good.

We also went to the Petronas Twin Towers and Petrosains, a science center on Petronas. the 5 of us, Mr Koh, Mr Nizam, Wen Jun, Sherman and I had loads of fun over the last few days.

We would like to thank Ms Clarice Tan from Panasonic for making the neccesary arrangement for us for this trip...

We really wished that Timothy, Rui Bin and Mr James Tan could have join us for this trip...

We are really excited about the KWN competition that we participated.
We went for the ceremony awards today and it was totally what we didnt expected...

So, out of 22 entries, 6 awards (1 only for younger participants)

So we were

Nominated for 4 out of 5 awards,
Got 2 awards, The Spotlight Award (Content) and Top Production Video
The latter award puts OUR SCHOOL to represent SINGAPORE for the REGIONAL ROUNDS!

It was then followed by dazzling music and applause... It was good.
Then followed by interviews and photographs.. That was a bit over the top

Yeah, so its a big hooha, but we did our best and got this far. WE couldnt have done anything without our dedicated team and supporting school, teachers, friends and family...

So its really exciting whats going to happen next!

I've been surfing the net recently and found 2 very cool links...

1st, is the Four Eyed Monsters podcast...

This is the podcast on a project of the movie Four Eyed Monsters. The movie is about a guy and a girl, who starts dating each other without talking, only by writing and other art mediums like pictures and videos. Even when they meet (and even have sex) do they still use these mediums...

Their movies are a hit in film festivals across the US.

Their podcast is another hit, featuring what actually happened while in this project.. To me, it feels like a drama series...

Our KWN competition is wrapped up and now starting to study for examinations...

Hi all,

Our KWN competition is finally complete... Yeah... So we can finally breath a sigh of relief.. It was alot of rushing, but we got things done!

So here's some info on the KWN competition...

Tim & I went for 4 courses on fliming, starting with

Idea generation,
Storyboarding,
Fliming (the whole team came down for this session)
Editing

We had a very good instructor who does short flims, and helped us alot especially in the very important idea generation session..

So we got down to work, but Tim , I and Sherman were tied up with another English Documentary, Speak Good Singlish, and had to push back KWN fliming a bit back..

But we managed to get work done. The interviews were difficult to get because of the unwillingness of the people.

We went to different places such as:
HDB Hub
Fernvale (HDB buildings)
Boon Lay (not official trip)
Farmway (Jalan Kayu)
Sengkang Community Center
Our teammate's house

to get our fliming shots for editing

So after:

1 fliming permit
A few disagreements
A couple of bucks on snacks
17 mosquito bites
Some work with the iBook

We got our final product of our KWN competition done...

So if you wanna find out how out product looks like, we will be doing DVD that will have it complied... So dont worry.. You'll get to see it!

Hi everyone, this is Ben here...

Now, our latest episode of the Tim & Ben Show: Racial Harmony Special, was broadcast today at the Sengkang Community Library at our school's Racial Harmony Promotion thingy.

We got quite a number of good responses, but no bad ones so far.

The school's showcase of the Racial Harmony special will be on the 2nd of August during assembly. So, like it or not, you have to see our faces... =)

Featuring in this episode would be super-imposing. Ah-ha! Something new in the show, so do check it out!

Tim and I have also recorded our 1st single, "01'41" which is our Racial Harmony Rap. It'd also be somewhere in the show. (I think)

If your looking for the 1st episode, Im sorry to say that it has been delayed. I'm trying my best to try to upload them on the site so please be patient.
